My wife’s sweater collection defeated the approximately 15 year old Closet Maid support brackets. The new ones had a semi circular cross section instead of “v” shaped (more material). They were slightly longer to give a 60 degree angle from the old 45 degrees (any longer length would have interfered with the clothing pole). The new angle affords a more efficient vector of forces. The anchor pads are now embossed which increases strength. All good things.Unfortunately, I needed to increase slot depth in top cup area so that they would fit on my old metal shelf. This only took a few minutes per bracket for me to do on a 14” diameter abrasive saw. But how many people have the facility to do this? I fault the design staff for this omission.I secured the brackets into studs. Original carpenter used company recommended plastic expanding dry wall anchors, which clearly were not up to task.Sweaters admittedly weigh a lot, but all clothing is surprisingly heavy. A little fore thought can lessen the need of a fallen closet mess (I also doubled up on plastic rod “j” hooks).
